Missy Anderson was born and raised in Northeast Ohio and moved to Columbus to attend THE Ohio State University where she received her Bachelor of Arts in Communication, with a minor in Women’s Studies.  Missy has 18 years of Marketing Leadership experience and is currently the Manager of Marketing Creative Services with The Scotts Miracle-Gro Company.

Missy and her wife, Leslie, reside in Grove City with their 3 children.  They met in 2001 and were married in Canada in 2007 before marriage equity was legal in Ohio.  They think it’s time to renew their vows and wed in their home state! Their journey to parenthood was long, and at times overwhelming and exhausting.  They have been blessed now with 3 children. Two children conceived via insemination, with Missy getting pregnant, and one child via IVF (in vitro fertilization) where Leslie’s biological eggs were removed, fertilized, and then implanted into Missy; and Missy carried for Leslie.  Through their journey, they have had many experiences and understand the process gay and lesbian women go through.

Missy joined Family Pride Network in an effort to be part of the conversation, support and encouragement for other prospective parents embarking on their own journey towards parenthood.  Missy and Leslie are excited to have a community to grow with and be around, for their children.

Jiamei Knox-Zhang - Director

Jiamei Knox-Zhang graduated from The Ohio State University in 2009 with a degree in Honors Accounting. Since graduating, she has worked at JPMorgan Chase, where she is currently a Digital Risk Manager and was previously an Audit manager in the Consumer Bank audit function. Jiamei is a Certified Public Accountant (CPA) but would be the first to admit that aside from an internship at Deloitte Chicago in their Financial Services practice, she hasn’t used the designation much.

Jiamei and her wife, Sara, live in Harrison West/Victorian Village and are currently working on an addition to their home. They have one cranky older cat who is very upset with their renovation and are looking forward to starting a family (someday). They enjoy traveling, experiencing the beauty of the outdoors (hiking, kayaking, boating), and spending time with friends and family.

Peter Lovins - Founder & Director

Peter Lovins is Staff Counsel for the Columbus Blue Jackets of the National Hockey League. His practice includes drafting contracts, securing immigration status for players and scouts, processing workers’ compensation claims, and assisting with other legal matters.

Lovins earned his law degree from the Ohio State University Moritz College of Law in 2012. While a law student, he served as President of the Sports & Entertainment Law Association and on the Board of OutLaws; published a blog titled “Wide Rights,” providing information and commentary on gay rights and the sports industry; and volunteered at Kaleidoscope Youth Center, an after-school drop-in center for LGBTQ youth.

In addition to working with Family Pride Network, Lovins serves on the Board of Directors for the Girl Scouts of Ohio’s Heartland.  Lovins married his husband, Mike, in April 2016.  The couple resides in Columbus with their two dogs, Cooper and Toby.  He originally hails from Fairbanks, Alaska.

Kyle McCartney - Director

Kyle is the Branding Manager for Central Ohio Aesthetics. He was raised in the Columbus area and attended Bowling Green State University where he earned his bachelor’s in Biology in 2010.

After moving back to Columbus after graduating, Kyle met his now husband, Tom.  They married in 2013 in New York.  Kyle and Tom always had a strong desire to be parents, and relied upon resources and events provided by FPN as they started their path to parenthood. In March of 2016, they fulfilled that wish to become parents when they adopted their daughter, Regan.

Kyle has worked and volunteered within the medical industry for years, namely volunteering for some time with Nationwide Children’s Hospital, reading and playing board/video games with children admitted for extended periods of time.  He looks forward to serving with FPN in the hopes of providing the same resources that helped him along the way to his path to parenthood, as well as continuing to provide more community to those already with families.

Candelaria (Candy) Mota is currently the Assistant Director of the Center for Adolescents and Families for the National Youth Advocate Program (NYAP). Over the past thirteen years, Candy has enjoyed her role in child welfare and has a deep passion for helping youth and families. Born and raised in the South Bronx, Candy has served her community through community organizing, case management services, counseling and advocacy across needed groups.

Candy earned her Associates Degree in Human Services from Bronx Community College and her Bachelor’s Degree in Sociology from Hunter College. Shortly after completing her undergraduate degree, she moved to South Florida where she completed her Master’s Degree in Mental Health at Nova Southeastern University and met her life partner, Natalie. Together they work to empower youth and families in Columbus, Ohio providing them with the support, skill set and healing we all deserve.

Tara Polansky - Director

Tara Polansky works as an artist and educator, having displayed her artwork nationally and internationally in more than 50 museums and galleries.  She and her partner, Dr. Tayo Clyburn, got to know each other while teaching a class together at The Ohio State University for students from underrepresented groups.  They were married (twice) in 2013, once with government recognition in Massachusetts and a second time in Columbus.  In 2015 they welcomed their daughter, Alena, who was born the day before marriage equality became legal throughout the United States.

Tara worked as a community organizer for years focusing on immigrant worker rights and racial and economic justice.  Locally she helped form the Columbus chapter of Sisterhood of Saalam Shalom, a group dedicated to building friendship between Muslim and Jewish women.  Her family is active with PJ library, attending events with Jewish families centered around books, holidays and community.  Tara currently teaches ceramics at Clayspace and runs a monthly workshop called Gay for Clay in an effort to build community.  She was very pleased to learn about Family Pride Network as she and her family are always looking for opportunities to connect with queer families.
