Family Pride Network's mission is to connect and support LGBT families and prospective parents through social events, educational programs, and professional resources.

With roots in Columbus, Ohio, each member of Family Pride Network’s board is committed to the pursuit of family. Whether it’s offering the needed support to grow a family, providing LGBT parenting resources or connecting gay and straight families in the community, each board member believes love is what makes a family.

Joe Matessa - Founder & President
Joe Matessa has over 20 years of leadership experience in media, sales and marketing with companies that include Washington Post Media, the Dispatch Media Group, and Alliance Data. He is currently a Sales Development Manager with SalesFuel, Inc. in Westerville, OH.
As a father of seven-year-old twin boys, Eli and Ricky, he and his husband, Billy Molasso, reside in Upper Arlington with their dog Scooter. Joe and Billy met while living in Chicago, then moved to Washington, DC, where the laws were more favorable to adopt. They became a family when the boys were 1, then moved to Columbus, Ohio in 2011 to provide their family with a better quality of life with good schools and a robust LGBT community.
Joe originally hails from Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, and received is Bachelor of Arts in Communication from Bowling Green State University. Through his participation in the United Way of Central Ohio’s Pride Leadership program, Joe and his 14 fellow participants founded Family Pride Network in the fall of 2014. Joe is also on the Board of Directors for Action for Children, a Chair for the Stonewall Columbus 2016 Pride Festival, and a Co-Chair for the UWCO’s Pride Council Steering Committee.
Rachel Eddy - Vice President
Rachel Eddy was born and raised in Waynesburg, Pennsylvania and moved to Columbus in 2000. She attended The Ohio State University’s Max M. Fisher College of Business, where she earned her MBA in 2003. Since that time, she has worked in different companies and industries, but always focused on business process improvement and project management. She currently serves as a Senior Operations Analyst with Emerson Network Power in Worthington, Ohio.
Brandi Graham and her daughter Asha, 13, came into Rachel’s life in 2013. The three have since formed a family, along with their cat named Baby, and dog, James. Brandi and Rachel became engaged in 2016 and plan to marry within the year.
Rachel, Brandi and Asha began attending Family Pride Network events over a year ago. They are strong believers in the mission and values of FPN and look forward to making a positive impact on the organization. In addition to spending time as a family and volunteering with FPN, they enjoy evenings out with close friends and family.
Sara Canterbury - Treasurer
Sara Canterbury is a Financial Planner with Skylight Financial Group. She focuses her practice on helping all types of families put a plan in place to achieve short and long term financial goals. After earning her bachelor’s degree from Miami University, Sara spent a year living in London, England before settling down in Columbus.
Currently Sara sits on the Board of Trustees for the Westerville Chamber of Commerce, is a member of The Childhood League and volunteers at Stove Village Church where she and her family attend.
In 2005, Sara and her husband, Matt, purchased a home in the Short North. Over the last decade they have spent many hours completely remodeling their home. They currently have a son Zac who is 5 as well as a dog, Zoey and a cat named Chester.
Hannah Botkin-Doty - Secretary
Hannah is a graduate of Capital University Law School, where she spent her time working with the Adoption legal clinic, the Foster youth legal clinic and the Veteran’s wills clinic. Hannah graduated with over 200 pro bono service hours and with specializations in Alternative Dispute Resolution and Child and Family Law.
Abbie Obenour and Hannah Botkin-Doty own The Law Firm of Doty and Obenour LLC., and accept cases in the areas of Adoption, Estate Planning and Administration, Elder Law, LGBT Family Law, Small Business Law, Guardian Ad Litem and Assisted Reproductive Technology.
Hannah is a member of the Ohio Bar Association, as well as the Women Lawyers of Franklin County, and the Ohio Women's Bar Association. She serves as chair of the LGBT Committee for the Columbus Bar Association for the 2015-2016 and 2016-17 years.
Hannah is happily married for five years this July 24 to her wife Kristin who graduated from the University of Dayton and works for Deloitte, a nationwide accounting firm.
Jiamei Knox-Zhang - Director
Jiamei Knox-Zhang graduated from The Ohio State University in 2009 with a degree in Honors Accounting. Since graduating, she has worked at JPMorgan Chase, where she is currently a Digital Risk Manager and was previously an Audit manager in the Consumer Bank audit function. Jiamei is a Certified Public Accountant (CPA) but would be the first to admit that aside from an internship at Deloitte Chicago in their Financial Services practice, she hasn’t used the designation much.
Jiamei and her wife, Sara, live in Harrison West/Victorian Village and are currently working on an addition to their home. They have one cranky older cat who is very upset with their renovation and are looking forward to starting a family (someday). They enjoy traveling, experiencing the beauty of the outdoors (hiking, kayaking, boating), and spending time with friends and family.
Peter Lovins - Founder & Director
Peter Lovins is Staff Counsel for the Columbus Blue Jackets of the National Hockey League. His practice includes drafting contracts, securing immigration status for players and scouts, processing workers’ compensation claims, and assisting with other legal matters.
Lovins earned his law degree from the Ohio State University Moritz College of Law in 2012. While a law student, he served as President of the Sports & Entertainment Law Association and on the Board of OutLaws; published a blog titled “Wide Rights,” providing information and commentary on gay rights and the sports industry; and volunteered at Kaleidoscope Youth Center, an after-school drop-in center for LGBTQ youth.
In addition to working with Family Pride Network, Lovins serves on the Board of Directors for the Girl Scouts of Ohio’s Heartland. Lovins married his husband, Mike, in April 2016. The couple resides in Columbus with their two dogs, Cooper and Toby. He originally hails from Fairbanks, Alaska.
Kyle McCartney - Director
Kyle is the Branding Manager for Central Ohio Aesthetics. He was raised in the Columbus area and attended Bowling Green State University where he earned his bachelor’s in Biology in 2010.
After moving back to Columbus after graduating, Kyle met his now husband, Tom. They married in 2013 in New York. Kyle and Tom always had a strong desire to be parents, and relied upon resources and events provided by FPN as they started their path to parenthood. In March of 2016, they fulfilled that wish to become parents when they adopted their daughter, Regan.
Kyle has worked and volunteered within the medical industry for years, namely volunteering for some time with Nationwide Children’s Hospital, reading and playing board/video games with children admitted for extended periods of time. He looks forward to serving with FPN in the hopes of providing the same resources that helped him along the way to his path to parenthood, as well as continuing to provide more community to those already with families.
Candelaria Mota - Director
Candelaria (Candy) Mota is currently the Assistant Director of the Center for Adolescents and Families for the National Youth Advocate Program (NYAP). Over the past thirteen years, Candy has enjoyed her role in child welfare and has a deep passion for helping youth and families. Born and raised in the South Bronx, Candy has served her community through community organizing, case management services, counseling and advocacy across needed groups.
Candy earned her Associates Degree in Human Services from Bronx Community College and her Bachelor’s Degree in Sociology from Hunter College. Shortly after completing her undergraduate degree, she moved to South Florida where she completed her Master’s Degree in Mental Health at Nova Southeastern University and met her life partner, Natalie. Together they work to empower youth and families in Columbus, Ohio providing them with the support, skill set and healing we all deserve.
Tara Polansky - Director
Tara Polansky works as an artist and educator, having displayed her artwork nationally and internationally in more than 50 museums and galleries. She and her partner, Dr. Tayo Clyburn, got to know each other while teaching a class together at The Ohio State University for students from underrepresented groups. They were married (twice) in 2013, once with government recognition in Massachusetts and a second time in Columbus. In 2015 they welcomed their daughter, Alena, who was born the day before marriage equality became legal throughout the United States.
Tara worked as a community organizer for years focusing on immigrant worker rights and racial and economic justice. Locally she helped form the Columbus chapter of Sisterhood of Saalam Shalom, a group dedicated to building friendship between Muslim and Jewish women. Her family is active with PJ library, attending events with Jewish families centered around books, holidays and community. Tara currently teaches ceramics at Clayspace and runs a monthly workshop called Gay for Clay in an effort to build community. She was very pleased to learn about Family Pride Network as she and her family are always looking for opportunities to connect with queer families.

Jake Bluvstein - Founder & Past-Director
Jake Bluvstein is the Marketing Director for Fusian, and a founding member of Family Pride Network. Born and raised in Milwaukee, Wisconsin, Jake moved to Columbus, Ohio in 2005 to attend THE Ohio State University where he earned his bachelor’s degree in marketing from The Max M. Fisher College of Business.
In 2007, Jake met Brad, the man who would later become his husband. As prospective parents, Jake and Brad saw a strong need for a resource couples like them could go to when they are ready to take the first step toward parenthood.
Jake enjoys serving as a volunteer for various non-profit groups including The United Way of Central Ohio, The German Village Society, and ARC Ohio.
